Library

The Library of the Animal Production Research Centre exists more than 50 years already. Its library stock contains more than 25 700 library stock units. It is created by monographs and specialist books, proceedings, dictionaries and encyclopaedias, year-books, inclusive of statistical ones, bound annual volumes of journals as well as special kinds of documents, e.g. annual, research and trip reports, author’s abstracts, dissertations, documents in CD form, etc.

Library stock (628 titles) of the late Professor MVDr Ladislav Landau (1914 – 1965), one of the founders of the Research Institute for Animal Production – the predecessor of APRC – is managed separately.

At present we obtain 111 titles of periodicals in form of purchase, exchange or gift; out of them are 58 foreign ones.

Data basis of Current Contents (Series: Life Sciences and Agriculture, Biology and Environmental Sciences) is available on-line in the in-line network of the Centre. The Statistical year-book of SK is available for the employees also.

Subject of the library stock is aimed at broad problems of animal production: genetics and reproduction, nutrition, breeding, breeding technology of individual farm animal species as well as quality of animal products and veterinary medicine.

Since 2005 the cataloguing and bibliographing of accessions is performed on the basis of automatic system Micro CDS – ISIS – Proflib (more than 5000 entries). This data basis, accessible in the network of the Centre, creates a part of the inter-departmental data basis Agrokatalog. Card catalogues are also available to readers for retrieval of older sources. Data basis “loans” is closely connected to cataloguing data basis. The Library participates also in creation of the Slovak Cumulative Catalogue of Periodicals. There is active international and domestic inter-library exchange of publications with 70 partners.

The Library builds up, manages and makes available to legal persons the archived collection of winning recordings from the International Film Festival AGROFILM.

Bibliography of publications of APRC’s employees is processed by the programme “EPC – Publication Activity” and the year-book “List of Publications” is published every year. Library follows bibliographical references, impact factors and other parameters, which represent the activities of APRC.
