Institute of Small Farm Animals
The main research focus in the institute of Small Farm Animals concerns the
breeding of broiler rabbits, the biology of small game and selected fish
species with special attention being paid to the economic and ecological
aspects of breeding.
Solutions are sought for genetic, nutritional,
technological, veterinary and organisational issues connected with optimal
utilisation of small farm animals and game in given production conditions.
Scientific and research priorities of the institute:
- Improvement and stabilisation of new zootechnical units of broiler rabbits meeting required parameters of meat production.
- Optimisation of feed mixtures for particular ages and physiological categories of broiler rabbits.
- Studies into the feed ecology, nutrition, and selected physiological parameters of field game.
- Investigation of the possibilities of using cage-bred hares for venatory purposes, and of revitalisation of the critically-endangered wild rabbit and partridge populations.
- Studies into the factors influencing the reproduction and growth processes in fish, and investigation of further possibilities of reproduction control in sterlets for stocking purposes and consumption.
- Studies of small field game as a bio-indicator of disturbed ecological balances in agricultural areas.
